Here you’ll enjoy a guided tour with tasting in the Barm Cellar bar followed by lunch in the Malthouse Kitchen.

Brewery Tour and Tasting

Brewery tours start from the Visitors Centre and last approx 2 hours. As you progress around the brewery you'll see the original steam engine*, one of the most remarkable survivors of time at this iconic Victorian tower brewery, that can drive the machinery as it has done for the past hundred years. Learn about their history and how they make their delicious range of beers. After a tour of the stables, and if they are in residence, you'll be able to see their lovely Shire Horses who still deliver beer to local pubs in the traditional way.

Unfortunately Hook Norton Brewery are unable to accommodate people with mobility problems or walking sticks on their tours as the historic Brew house has a lot of steps. Sensible footwear, i.e. no open-toed shoes, with a good grip on the sole are also a must for this tour.

* The steam engine only runs on Saturdays.

Broughton Castle

In the afternoon we travel the short distance to Broughton Castle, a moated and fortified manor house near Banbury in North Oxfordshire. Set in parkland and built of the rich local Hornton ironstone, it was selected by Simon Jenkins as one of only twenty to be awarded five stars in his book: England’s Thousand Best Houses. The core of the house was built in 1306 and the gatehouse in the early fifteenth century, but most of what you see today dates from the 1550’s. It was a centre of opposition to Charles I and was besieged and damaged after the Battle of Edgehill in 1642.

Broughton Castle is home to the 21st Lord and Lady Saye & Sele, whose family name is Fiennes. The ownership of the Castle has remained in the same family since 1447.

You can also visit the garden, a tearoom and shop during your visit.
