The Dickens Christmas Festival

The popular Christmas Market (previously known as the Victorian Festival of Christmas) will have over 100 stalls showcasing a wide range of fine hand-crafted gifts and curiosities.

This year they are celebrating the Portsmouth-born Charles Dickens. Meet Dickensian characters, the fearsome Miss Havisham or the grumpy Mr Scrooge perhaps, from famous novels including Oliver Twist, The Old Curiosity Shop, Great Expectations, David Copperfield, and A Christmas Carol - you might even spot the legendary author himself!

Victorian characters also include a traditional Father Christmas dressed in green with his reindeer as well as street performers, new surprises and even more snow! Fagin’s Tavern is back in the Spiegeltent plus enjoy a tipple in the brand new Gin & Prosecco Parlour.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Harbour Tour

Containing several historic buildings and ships, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is an area of HM Naval Base Portsmouth which is open to the public. The Mary Rose Museum houses around 19,000 artefacts, including the surviving hull of the Mary Rose herself. The National Museum of the Royal Navy is host to many original Naval artefacts, including one of the original sails from the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The museum also includes the First World War monitor HMS M33, which opened to the public in 2015, the centenary year of her launch. Boathouse 4 houses a Boat-building and Heritage Skills Centre. HMS Victory, the flagship of Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, has been open to the public for nearly 200 years.
